Patterns Unit
Personal Growth Throughout the unit, I personally developed my mathematical skills. During the 1234 puzzle, I learned several math and real life skills, such as seeing patterns between numbers and equations and perseverance. In the beginning, I didn’t understand the problem so I disliked it. Once I began to understand it, it became easier as my skills stacked upon each other. In the end, It has become my favorite pow. The fourth pow, in which we learned patterns in the game, how to turn that information into an in/out table, and how to find a formula from the in/out table, was my least favorite pow. I disliked it because it was abstracted and I never completely understood it. Also the instructions were unclear and confusing. |
Healthy Population Unit
Personal Growth Before starting this unit, I didn’t really understand healthcare. Let alone, make a fair price for our citizens. Now at the end, I can not just make a fair price, but I can explain why that's a fair price. In my opinion, an important issue in providing a fair price is who it should be fair to. For example, the insurance company would have to increase prices for people with higher chances of disease to break even. But, the people who are more prone to disease usually have a lower income, so they might not be able to afford the insurance. Also people who have low chances of disease begin paying for nothing as there chance of getting anything is low. Through my mom, I have learned that the insurance companies only care about profits and screw people over to make money. My biggest remaining question is why are insurance companies so “slimy” and “sneaky”, with their loopholes. Some insights I have learned for caring for people are to stay as healthy as possible and not buy insurance. If you are healthy you have a much lower chance of needing a treatment. With the math, I can see insurance companies are manipulative and money centered. Since we worked with others, I learned to talk more with others and be more open. I will now take the lesser risk in more situations as I can see the probability of each side. |
